  1. Launch iMovie HD from the Dock or Applications folder.
  2. Create a new project named: Lastname_Narr1
    • Save it where you can find it (Desktop?) and Video Format set to ‘iSight
    • Do not put an extension on the project name!
  1. To create titles in your project, select the Editing tab and select Titles and enter your information in the title fields. Drag the blue T (in front of the title style) into the timeline or click the ‘Add’ button. Be sure you have the ‘Over black’ box checked and slide the Font Size to the largest possible.
  2. Save the project regularly! (File menu | Save Project or Apple+S).
  3. Switch to Camera mode and Import the video clips you need. Use the space bar to start/stop import.
  4. When you’re done shooting, switch back to Edit Mode and place your clips in the timeline—edit if appropriate. Use the Edit | Split Video Clip at Playhead (Apple+T) function to cut out footage you don’t need. Drag desired clips to the timeline.
  5. Export the project (File menu | Export…)
    • Click 'QuickTime' tab and 'Compress movie for'. Select ‘CD-ROM' from the pull-down menu then click Share.
    • Make sure the file name and the destination are correct then click the OK button
    • Compression should start and put the file into the location you specified above.
  6. Once the project has finished exporting to Quicktime format, get it to your instructor!
  1. Upload the file (lastname_narr1.mov) to the Classes folder on home.csumb.edu. Use a Secure-FTP client, such as Fetch to do this.
    • Enter home.csumb.edu into ‘hostname:’
    • Make sure that SFTP is selected in the ‘Connect using’ pull down menu
    • Log on to home.csumb.edu with your OtterID username and password
    • Navigate to the root (/) in the Path menu
    • Open the CLASSES folder; open ASL folder
    • Open your course and section folder (e.g. ASL102-01)
    • Put your file into the Inbox folder. You have just one chance to see if it uploads correctly—so check now
  1. Burn a copy to CD-ROM.
    • Place the CD in the slot on the right side of the computer.
    • Locate the CD image on the desktop and double click.  This will open a new window
    • Drag files onto the new window.
    • When finished, click the burn button on the right hand corner of the grey bar in the window, or drag the CD image to the trash on the dock.  The trashcan will change to a nuclear symbol
    • A small window will appear asking you to name the disk.  Insert the name you want into the title of CD area.

Notes:

Create a backup—put it on your Home Drive, Email or burn a CD-ROM.

If you need to return and complete your work another time, export to CD-ROM format, save the file, then Import back into iMovie! (File | Import). You can Edit that clip, just like any other clip!
